Thinking Ahead

Have you ever heard the comment, "you should drive 100 yards in front of your car"? When you're in heavy traffic reacting to the bumper just in front of your car might be a little difficult, especially at 70 mph. If you watch for brake lights 100 yards ahead, you can react sooner. Selling promotional print can be the same. You need to plan for what's coming further up the road.

Maybe one of your customers is planning a 4th of July golf outing for his clients. That means printed invitations, golf balls, and other promotional items. If your customer normally has a lull in sales during early summer, perhaps a direct mail campaign should be planned now. Target prospects or drill into current customers to further account penetration. This is also a good time to run a customer satisfaction survey, which means you sell a printed survey, outbound envelope, and return reply device.

For retail and restaurant clients, consider a gift card program to pull customers into the establishment. Summer is a time for outdoor events. Posters, event tickets, badges, passes, color coded wristbands, and direct mail can all be potential orders. Look at the local theater groups, museums, schools, organizations, and clubs. The local chamber of commerce may be of help.
