A First Timer's View

I was excited about the opportunity of attending the recent InformService i2002 show in Chicago. Ward/Kraft is such a diverse manufacturer, we could not have only one booth at the show, we had six. I worked at the Labels Booth and also at our Ad Specialties booth. Every time that I got the chance to talk to a distributor or even another vendor, they said to me, "Man you guys are everywhere!" We like being everywhere.
I noticed some Hits of the Show that I wanted to share with you. Our Magnetic Message product took off like a racehorse out of the gate. I gave a Product Theater presentation on the product to a small crowd that expressed great interest. We had one sample in particular which was a 4 x 11 magnet with three perfed out coupons attached to the magnet. The idea we presented was for a florist shop. Our concept, change the coupon with the season: could be Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas or Valentine's Day, Birthday, Anniversary, etc. This particular idea would work well for any retail establishments such as auto repair, restaurant deliveries, school calendars, electricians, plumbers...and the list goes on.
We also have a full 8.5 x 11 sheet of magnets; die cut into 8 business card size magnets. We had printed several photos of some of our members' children and grandchildren. This is such a unique product in that you can print it yourself on most desktop color printers.
Another successful launch of product was our DuraCard. We presented this product as well as several of our other plastic card products in a seminar titled "Stack your Deck with Winning Card Solutions". This combines a true ink jet/laser compatible card with no interference of tape tabs or holding wells. These cards are ideal for insurance and medical identification cards, sales promotions, discount cards and many more!
To a distributor, attending the InformServices, must have been like a kid in a candy store. For me, I got the opportunity to meet many new faces, see some that I already knew, and spend quality time with my fellow comrades on our Sales Force.

Ward/Kraft has partnered with one of our suppliers to come up with a new Vinyl Shelf Label stock that promises to help us make you competitive in this market. Also, we can utilize less costly tolling on the new material than what was previously required. The Innovation Continues - Thermal Transfer Label Forms...

For over 30 years, Ward/Kraft has been bringing you the latest innovations in document solutions. One of our strongest areas of expertise has always been in the label/form market. We are pleased to introduce the newest product in the area - we call it a Thermal Transfer Uni-Web.
What is a Uni-Web??? think joined-web or twin web without the glued overlap. In our LongRun/Custom Coating plant, we can take a thermal sheet and apply adhesive and a liner down one side of the form and then die cut it to make a label/form combination. Typical applications would be picking slips with shipping labels or packing slips with an address label. Contact Jeanie or Bev at 800-821-4021, Ext. 4102 or by email at blandes@wardkraft.com for samples and more information about this exciting new addition to the Ward/Kraft Family.

WARD/KRAFT'S CARD PRODUCTS OFFER NEW SALES OPPORTUNITIES

Ward/Kraft's Plastic Card Division offers distributors the opportunity to add advertising sales to your portfolio with the availability of Gift Cards and Hotel Ad Keys.

Gift Cards, the preferred gift of 40% of consumers, are a step up from traditional paper gift certificates, and second only to clothing in popularity. Unlike paper gift certificates, Gift Cards are extremely difficult to counterfeit manually. Gift Cards can be an appropriate "add-on" product to offer your existing customer base, allowing another sales opportunity with almost every call.

With Gift Cards growing at a rate of 11% to 15% annually, they can be a "winning solution" to sagging merchant sales and a profitable product for distributors. And with Gift Cards, your reorders are almost guaranteed.

Hotel "Ad Keys" take a rather common marketing concept, the billboard, and put it directly in the pocket of potential buyers. Ad Keys use hotel room keys as "mini billboards" for advertising area restaurants, attractions and retail outlets.

Through an Ad Key program, distributors offer inexpensive hotel room keys in exchange for the opportunity to print an advertisement on their keys. The "space" is then sold, for example, to one of your area restaurants, and every visitor who stays in the hotel gets a "mini billboard" with your customer's ad on the front. The advertising dollars pay for the keys, and contribute to your profits.

Ad Keys are powerful advertising. Unlike magazine ads and radio spots, they are "targeted" directly to the potential consumer, and are highly visible since every guest sees the ad. Like Gift Cards, Ad Keys can also add diversity to your sales program and, if properly measured, can assure reorders.

As most advertisers know, when the economy is down, the smart money is on increased advertising. Now is the time to add Gift Cards and Ad Keys to your sales pitch. Improve your customers' business and increase your sales.

Ward/Kraft has developed a Distributor "Sales Kit" for both Gift Cards and Ad Keys, that includes full color descriptive fliers, marketing tools, selling "hints" to share with your customers, return on investment numbers that show the value of programs and a variety of "live" samples. All but the samples can be sent to you electronically.

Thinking out of the box
Temporary Adhesive

Are you looking for an adhesive that is aggressive enough to stick where only permanents have been used - yet it can be removed cleanly and be reapplied to a totally different surface? A label that functions as a piggyback but is actually a recyclable single-ply?

If you answered "YES" then T1055 Temporary adhesive is what you are looking for. It can be combined with several different face sheets, such as laser uncoated, direct thermal, thermal transfer, polypropylene, high gloss, semi-gloss, and latex.

The T1055 Temporary adhesive will stick to irregular surfaces and it will stick in damp, cold conditions. There are many applications, such as cartons labels, return labels, promotional labels, tote and bin labels, mirror/glass Mfg., shipping labels and many more. The T1055 Dispersion Label can be applied to a variety of products and removed without disturbing the surface or adhesive buildup. This Temporary adhesive provides the single media solution and will take you beyond the box.

Integrated Labels...Profits That Stick!

Integrated labels are one of the fastest growing products in our industry today and Ward/Kraft is a leader in the field. Our ability to create integrated labels in laser cut sheets, unit sets and continuous forms gives us a unique advantage. Add to that our imaging, die cutting and pattern adhesive technologies and you have a powerful arsenal for creating innovative solutions for your customers. Let's look at just a few examples.

Over the past years we have all seen the rise in laser cut sheet forms. This naturally leads to smarter and more efficient forms by incorporating labels. Applications for pick and pack systems, return labels, prescription labels, shipping or manufacturing are excellent opportunities for new sales.

A good example would be a software company or other dot com type scenario. The purchased item will be boxed and shipped with an enclosed packing list, which also acted as the pick ticket. Incorporated into the pick/pack form would be the shipping label. At the point of packaging the label is removed and affixed to the out going box or package. A secondary label can be included for a returned goods label.

Another cut sheet version to keep in mind would be an integrated label in a pressure seal or U-Seal™ mailer. We are already producing mailers with built in return labels, address labels and shipping labels. They can be processed through standard folder/sealers and are fully postal approved.

Many doctors and pharmacies are moving to laser printed prescription labels. There are several formats out there that normally include multiple labels for pill bottles or bags. These formats are also great applications to offer document security such as micro printing and VOID pantographs. Ward/Kraft is also now licensed to produce the new Flick-A-Way product.

Integrated labels can be created in continuos forms as well. Ward/Kraft has the ability to use a special liner with a CB coating. This allows you to put an integrated label on part of a multiple part carbonless set. As the label is truly integrated there is no affixed label so there is no buildup on the face of the form that might catch on a print head or tractor gate. The CB liner allows for image transfer to other parts.

As the integration process is completed prior to collating, the same process can be sued for unti set applications. Integrated labels in unit set may be used for product marking, inventory tags or numbered for cross-referencing. These applications may also provide the opportunity to add imaging such as bar coding thus adding more value to the form.

One quick tip for selling integrated labels or any form/label combination, start at the back of your prospects operation and find how the label is being used. Determine what information must appear on the label. Next find what document further up stream carries that same information. That may be your best target document for an integrated label. One important plus on integrated labels lies in the fact the label and form are printed at the same time therefore ensuring color match and registration.

Ward/Kraft offers more training and information on integrated labels through our WK Live Online training center. Just contact our marketing department for information and to schedule your online session!
